Malaysian filmmaker Yasmin Ahmed dead

Kuala Lumpur : Malaysian filmmaker Yasmin Ahmed who took up controversial issues like inter-racial relations is dead.

She was laid to rest Sunday after she died close to midnight following a stroke and bleeding in the brain, Star Online said.

Ahmed, 51, suffered a stroke while attending a meeting Saturday.

She had won many awards for her films and for her advertisement campaigns.

In TV commercials, she was known for her Malaysia theme and campaigns for Petronas, the oil and gas conglomerate.

Her films include “Gubra” (2006), “Mukhsin” (2007), “Muallaf” (2008) and “Talentime” (2009).
