Raipur : Heavily armed Maoists fired several rounds on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post in Chhattisgarh Wednesday night in restive Bastar region, police sources said.
Maoists fired several rounds twice at the check post at Keshkutul village under Bhairamgarh locality in Bijapur district at around 9 p.m. but the alert troopers returned fire and the rebels were believed to have dispersed into nearby forests without inflicting any casualty, the sources here told IANS.
Fearing more firing at police installations Wednesday night, the entire Bastar region, comprising of five districts – Bijapur, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kanker and Dantewada – spread over about 40,000 sq kms, has been put on high alert.
In Chhattisgarh, insurgents had killed 29 policemen July 12 and six CRPF men July 26.
