The explosion was caused by a car bomb outside the Palmanova civil guard barracks, close to the Marivent palace where Spain’s royal family is spending its traditional summer holiday, the El Pais newspaper reported.

The two victims were civil guard police personnel, the report said.

The blast occurred a day after a car bomb explosion outside a police post in Burgos, northern Spain. At least 54 people were injured in the blast which is blamed on the Basque separatist group ETA.
