Kochi : The Kerala High Court Tuesday directed the Indian High Commission in Britain to ensure that all arrangements are made to bring back the body of Malayali nurse Mini Francis, who died there in March.
Mini’s mother Lily Francis approached the High Court after the family came to know that her husband Angelo Francis planned to cremate her body in Britain. The family objected because cremation was against Christian rites.
The decision was taken by a two-member division bench of the Kerala High Court headed by Justice R. Basant.
Mini, 28, left for Britain after giving birth to a baby boy early this year to resume her work as a nurse in a hospital in Salisbury. However, on March 23, her husband informed her family that she had died of septicaemia following an infection.
M.P. Jose, Mini’s brother, said they approached the court after their pleas to Angelo to return her body failed.
“For the past one week his parish also got involved and we were prepared to withdraw the case provided he brings back the body. We had made an agreement also. But at the last moment, he wanted the agreement to be sent to him. We said the church can keep it but it cannot be sent to him. Now we are happy that the court has come out with this order,” Jose told IANS.
