Kolkata : Rotary International has planned a series of concerts across the globe to help out the street children of Kolkata.
The first concert in the series will be held at the historic St. John’s Church in Germany’s Schweinfurt June 6, according to santoor maestro Tarun Bhattacharjee.
Bhattacharjee said he had always wished to utilise his musical talent to help the homeless children.
“I feel happy to be part of such musical tours, the proceeds of which will act as an elixir for those living in the streets,” he said.
The proceeds of the concert, likely to be around 2,500 to 3,000 Euros, will go to FORUM, an NGO working for the cause of street children in Kolkata.
According to West Bengal’s Labour department statistics, children comprise 42 percent of the state’s population. Of them, 8.57 percent are engaged as child labourers.
