Lyon (France): The Interpol said Tuesday it would aid in coordinating international efforts to identify the 228 victims of the June 1 crash of an Air France plane in the Atlantic.
An officer from Interpol’s Command and Coordination Centre in the French city of Lyon has been deployed to the crisis centre in Paris where forensic efforts will be carried out to identify the victims.
The efforts “will be based on Interpol’s internationally accepted Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) protocols”, the agency said in a press statement.
This will involve the collection of data from the recovered remains, such as tattoos, fingerprints, surgical implants and dental X-rays.
Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble said: “Since the victims from this tragedy came from all parts of the globe, international collaboration will be essential in ensuring their accurate, dignified and speedy recovery and identification.”
