Greater Noida: A man, angry over his dowry demands not being met, allegedly axed to death his two minor daughters but was arrested before he could kill his wife, police said Friday.

The incident occurred Thursday in Mangroli locality of Greater Noida under the Jewar police station, police said.

Yogesh, who is pursuing his B.Sc. from an institute in Noida was arrested after his father-in-law Chandra Prakash lodged a complaint, police added.

Prakash alleged that Yogesh who was married to his daughter Rinki had been harassing them for dowry and since they were not able to meet his demands he wanted to get rid of his wife and two daughters aged two and four and get married again.

On Thursday, Yogesh murdered his two daughters with an axe, but before he could bury their bodies and murder Rinki, a anonymous caller tipped of Prakash, who called the police, which recovered the bodies of the two children, police said.

“We have registered the complaint. The complainant Chandra Prakash has named nine relatives of Yogesh in the crime. Yogesh has been arrested and we will soon arrest the rest,” Superintendent of Police Surendra Verma said.
