Ahmedabad : As many as 12 labourers were killed on the spot and six others seriously injured as the truck they were riding in overturned near Babra village of Gujarat’s Amreli district Saturday.
Reports reaching here said 18 labourers were riding in the truck carrying cement from Una near Diu to the Kandla port in the Kutch region when the driver lost control over the vehicle. The truck overturned, crushing the 12 labourers under the cement bags. The dead included seven children, three women and two men, all from Rapar in Kutch.
The six injured were flung off the vehicle and survived.
The driver of the truck, who escaped unhurt, fled from the spot. The injured labourers were admitted to a government hospital in Amreli by the highway patrol team, who rushed on being informed of the accident.
Amreli is around 300 km from here.
