Howrah (West Bengal) : The Indian Railways will send 10,000 dhotis and sarees for the Cyclone Aila-hit people in two districts of West Bengal, Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee announced here Sunday.

“We are sending some relief materials including 10,000 dhotis and sarees. Earlier we had sent 37,000 dhotis and sarees,” Banerjee said at a function here.

She said railway doctors carrying life saving drugs were already on the job in the cyclone-hit areas. “We are also giving baby food and halogen tablets. Earlier we had dispatched 50,000 water bottles of Rail Neer,” she said.

The materials will be sent Monday to the badly hit North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas districts.

The May 25 cyclone tore through 13 of the state’s 19 districts, levelling houses, uprooting trees, snapping power cables and leaving a trail of destruction.

A total of 138 deaths have been reported in the natural calamity across the state.
