Four killed in Tablighi ijtema tragedy

Brahampur (West Bengal): In a tragic incident at the three-day Tablighi congregation at Kashipur High School Ground, Murshidabad, six people had died and another five hundred were injured, seven of them seriously, when the tent collapsed due the heavy storms and rains after the Maghrib prayers yesterday. An estimated one lakh perple were present at the congregation when the tragedy occurred.

According to the reports, in the Rojeen Nagar Police Station of the district, due to heavy rains and winds the thirty four feet high tent at the congregation place collapsed causing the death of four persons on the spot while around five hundred persons were rendered injured. The District Magistrate of Murshidabad Pervez Ahmad Siddiqui told that three persons died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. Local people claim that seven persons have died in the incident. The three dead have been identified as Aizuddin Sheikh (52), Abdul Wahhab Mondal (65) and Master Hannan.
