On Board Air India One : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday reacted cautiously to bitter infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying he did not want to gloat over difficulties of other political parties.
“I am not in favour of gloating over difficulties of other political parties,” Manmohan Singh told reporters while returning from the Russian city of Yekaterinburg when asked to comment on the infighting and disarray in India’s main opposition party after its humiliating defeat in the parliamentary elections last month.
“If wishes were horses, beggars would ride,” a smiling prime minister replied when asked whether India was back to an earlier era of one-party dominance after the Congress surprised by winning 206 seats – the largest number any political party has got in the last two decades.
