Burdwan latest Trinamool-Left flashpoint

By IANS,

Kolkata : The Trinamool Congress Thursday alleged that West Bengal’s ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has unleashed terror on party activists in Burdwan district and threatened to start an agitation unless the CPI-M “goons” are reined in.

Trinamool Congress chief whip in the Lok Sabah Sudip Bandopadhyay said: “If no solution is found by tomorrow (Friday) we will start an agitation. If that leads to clashes we have to be prepared for that.” He was speaking after visiting the affected villages of Mangalkot in Burdwan.

The area has seen trouble since CPI-M district committee member Falguni Mukherjee was shot dead from point blank range by miscreants June 16.

The CPI-M has alleged the attackers had links with the Trinamool.

But Bandopadhyay maintained the killing was a result of the factional feud in the CPI-M.

Bandopadhyay alleged that Trinamool supporters were being harassed in Mangalkot.

“Wherever we are going, we are hearing tales of atrocities from the villagers. In several villages, our supporters’ houses have been burnt, the furniture damaged. Our people are left homeless,” he alleged.
