Lucknow : Eleven members of a family died and two others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh district Friday, police said.
“The accident occurred on the Mohna Road in Azamgarh district,” district police chief Ramit Sharma told IANS on phone.
“Seven people died on the spot, while four died while undergoing treatment at a hospital,” Sharma added.
According to police, the family was returning after offering prayers at a temple.
“The deceased are from the Gopalpur village in Azamgarh and had gone to the Gambhirpur village in the district,” Sharma said.
Two other people in the jeep suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment at the district hospital, police said.
The driver of the truck managed to escape after the accident.
