Court allows ATS to voice sample Malegaon 2008 blasts accused

Mumbai: The special MCOCA court of Mumbai has sanctioned on Friday the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) to take the voice samples of Dayanand Pandey and Major Ramesh Upadhyay, the key accused in the Malegaon 2008 blasts.

Besides arresting 11 persons, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh, Upadhyay and Pandey, from Hindu radical organizations in connection with the Malegaon 2008 blasts, The ATS led by the late Hemant Karkare had seized some audio and video clips of the telephonic conversation of the accused.

Nine months after filing the case, the ATS had applied from the MCOCA court to allow it get the voice sample of both the accused in order to establish that the voice recorded was theirs.

It was for the first time that the members of Hindutva network were arrested on terrorism chages. The blasts claimed six lives and injured more than 150. The ATS led by late Hemant Karkare arrested 11 persons from different Hindu radical organizations, particularly, the Abhinav Bharat.
