Maulana Ajmal termed the accident a ‘tragic’ one and said that his party is always ready to extend helping hands to the affected families. ‘From local level to the parliament I will try to raise voice for them. We will contribute our efforts for their rehabilitation’ said MP Badruddin.

He told that some of the locals allege that the blaze was a part of ‘conspiracy’. Maulana demanded a fair probe in the case ‘if the matter was so’ and tough punishment for the culprits.

The locals also complained to Maulana that the government is due to demolish the structures affected by the blaze while they ask that before destruction the ownership slip should be given to them. Badruddin said that if destruction is necessary the process should take place in the presence of the responsible officers.

The slum area of Bandra (E) Behrampada witnessed a blazing fire on June 17 which burnt hundreds of shanties and claimed nearly a dozen lives according to the locals. Thousands of affected people, mostly Muslims, are now living under the nearby Bandra Sky Walk and in open ground under tents. Many organizations and political parties including UDF are busy distributing relief materials and providing free medical assistance.
