Lucknow : A criminal, operating in several states, was shot dead by police in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district after an hour-long gun battle, while 12 of his aides managed to escape, police said Friday.
“Chandrapal Bawaria was killed in the Firozabad district late Thursday in a gun battle with personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG) that continued for over an hour,” Firozabad police chief Raghuveer Lal told IANS over telephone.
Police have constituted teams to nab Bawaria’s 12 associates, who managed to escape in the cross-firing, he added.
According to police, as many as 20 criminal cases, including of murder and abduction, were pending against Bawaria, who operated in Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh as well.
The state police had announced a reward of Rs.10,000 on Bawaria’s head.
Firozabad is about 300 km from Lucknow.
