New Delhi : Delhi Police Saturday arrested the wife of former Delhi legislator Ranbir Singh Kharb for duping investors to the tune of Rs. 4.75 crores (Rs. 47.5 million). Kharb was arrested June 17.
“We have arrested Anita Kharb from Uttam Nagar, this morning,” said a police official. Anita and her husband were operating a finance company, where Anita was one of the directors.
A police official said that the couple induced many people, mainly relatives and friends to invest in their Jyoti Fair Finance Company, assuring that their money would double in three years or would be returned when the investors wanted.
As many as 18 people had invested Rs. 47.5 million in the company and they did not take any receipt from the company because of their faith on the couple.
“Initially the company gave good interest to the investors but as the investors invested more,they did not return the money and neither provided the interest,” the official added.
Anita’s anticipatory bail petition was dismissed by the High Court.
