Lucknow : A case has been lodged against three policemen for disposing off the body of a kidnapped youth and concealing facts in a murder case in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district. The three have been suspended, police said Monday.
Inspector Nirbhay Narayan Singh and constables Jaiprakash and Imtiyaz were found guilty of disposing off the body of 24-year-old Chaitanya, son of a businessman, who was kidnapped June 1. A case of kidnapping was lodged in the Ramkola police station.
“However, he was untraceable and no ransom call was made. A headless body was found in a sugar mill and without much investigation the policemen disposed it off without making any entries in the police records,” Inspector Radheyshyam Rai of Ramkola police station told IANS by phone.
A team, investigating the kidnapping of Chaitanya, nabbed his friend Ravish Tiwari who confessed to the crime.
“Tiwari confessed that he, along with two of his friends, took Chaitanya to the sugar mill. They intoxicated Chaitanya and were planning to collect ransom. However, Chaitanya tried to escape and fearing that they would be caught, they killed him,” Rai added.
Rai said in a bid to wipe off the evidence, they chopped off Chaitanya’s head and threw it in a canal nearby.
After the revelations made by the accused, it came to light that the headless body was of Chaitanya.
“A case has been lodged against the three cops who tried to hide evidence and neglected their duty. They have been suspended with immediate affect,” Superintendent of Police Kushinagar Luv Kumar told IANS on phone.
