Lucknow : Two Dalit youths were beaten and paraded naked after their faces were painted black for having collected wood from a mango orchard without permission in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, police said Monday.
Putan and Nanku, both aged around 24 years, were caught stealing wood from Vinod Singh’s mango orchard in Kotar village of Sitapur district, about 80 km from here, Sunday.
After tying the youths to a tree, Singh and three of his friends beat them with wooden sticks and later paraded them naked though the village, Deputy Superintendent of Police Masood Siddiqui told IANS on phone.
Acting on a complaint registered by the two youths, police have registered a first information report (FIR) against Singh and his three friends.
“Of the four accused, we have managed to arrest two, including the prime accused Vinod Singh,” said Siddiqui.
Raids are being carried out to nab the other two men involved in the incident, he added.
