Kharb’s application, filed by his counsel S.K. Kapoor, sought that he should be provided all the facilities, including television and newspapers, as are available to B-category prisoners, given his status as an ex-legislator.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate R.K. Tripathi sought a response from the Tihar jail superintendent, asking him to file his reply July 1.

Meanwhile, the court remanded Kharb, a former independent legislator from the Najafgarh constituency here, and his wife Anita, a co-accused, to judicial custody till July 13.

Anita, who was arrested by the Economic Offence Wing of Delhi police on June 27 in two cases registered by them, moved separate bail applications which were also posted for hearing by the court for July 1.

The Delhi police arrested the former legislator June 17, following complaints of 18 investors who had approached the police on April 25, 2006.

A case was registered against Kharb with the Uttam Nagar police station in west Delhi in 2006 under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code including cheating and criminal conspiracy. Another case was lodged against him a year later.
