The list contains names of two or three candidates for each of the 28 seats. The list was prepared at the end of two-day discussion with state party leaders by Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad Sunday evening, sources said.

Azad, who arrived here Saturday, is taking the list to Delhi.

The names were finalised after three teams headed by senior leaders met district and block level leaders of the party.

The teams were headed by state unit working president D.K. Shivakumar, former chief minister N. Dharam Singh and former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah.

In the 2004 Lok Sabha polls, the Congess won only eight seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 18 seats and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) two.

The BJP, which came to power in the state for the first time a year back, has finalised candidates for 16 seats and the names for the remaining 12 seats will be decided in the next few days, party spokesperson C.T. Ravi told reporters.

The JD-S has not yet decided its candidates.
