Media orientation workshop for Congress spokespersons

New Delhi : A two-day orientation workshop for Congress spokespersons began today to equip the “media faces” of the party with facts and figures on the achievements of the UPA government and issues which the party will highlight in the Lok Sabha (Lower House) elections.

Over 200 party spokespersons from across the country are participating in the media orientation workshop in which top leaders, including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi are expected to interact with delegates.

“The spokespersons would be informed about the policies of the party and its stand on various issues. They will take the message across,” a party source said.

Apart from the speeches by the leaders, there would be an interactive session after each speech in which the spokespersons will be asked to clarify if they have any doubts.

On the first day, senior leaders Salman Khurshid will speak on the UPA government’s foreign policy initiatives and Abhishek Singhvi will discuss facets of nuclear deal and energy security. Planning Commission member Balachandra Mungekar’s topic is demographic dividend and education.

Union Minister Meira Kumar will focus on the steps taken by successive Congress governments since Independence on the empowerment of Scheduled Castes and R K Naik, member, DEPCO will speak on tribal welfare policies.
