Rain stops play in the first ODI with India 27/0

Napier : Gloomy weather with a persistent drizzle stopped play in the fifth over with India 27 for no loss in the first of the five One-Day Internationals (ODI) against New Zealand here Tuesday.

Virender Sehwag was batting 23 off 19 balls and Tendulkar three when play was halted.

Earlier, India’s skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat on the batsman-firendly McLean’s Park pitch.

India made three changes from the side that lost the two-match Twenty20 series against the Black Caps, bringing in star batsman Sachin Tendulkar and medium-pacers Praveen Kumar and Munaf Patel in place of Irfan Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja and injured Ishant Sharma.

Fast bowler Kyle Mills returns to the New Zealand eleven after missing the Twenty20 games with an injury. He comes in for Tim Southee.
