Indian cricket fans burn effigy of Pakistani president to condemn attack

By IANS,

Ranchi : Fans of Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni Tuesday burnt an effigy of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and condemned the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistani city of Lahore.

Hundreds of cricket lovers of the Dhoni Fans Club gathered near the Albert Ekka roundabout and shouted slogans like “Pakistan Murdabad, Zardari hai hai, Taliban hai hai” (condemning Pakistan, Zardari and the Taliban).

“It is a lesson for Pakistan to support India in fight against terror. We condemn the attack. Pakistani president is responsible for the attack. We as cricket fans feel hurt by such an attack that took place on in Lahore,” Dhoni Fans Club president Jitendra Singh said.

Another cricket fan Ajay Rai said: “Everyone knows threat perception on cricketers. Despite the threat perception, the Pakistani government failed to ensure foolproof security to them. This is a black day in the history of world cricket.”

At least five security personnel were killed and six Sri Lankan cricketers were injured Tuesday morning when heavily armed gunmen attacked the team cavalcade while it was on its way to the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore for the ongoing Test.
