“A police team has gone to Bhubaneswar with a production warrant to take Mohhamad Taslim on remand,” Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar told IANS.

He added that Taslim, who is wanted in over a dozen criminal cases in Jharkhand, was arrested in Bhubaneswar Thursday.

The Indian cricket captain’s family received two letters in December last year from someone who claimed to be a close associate of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

While the first letter demanded Rs.5 million, the other threatened to blow up his home if the money was not paid and if the police were approached.

The Jharkhand government provided Z-category security cover to the Indian skipper following the threat.

According to the police, Taslim was a close associate of Surendra Bengali, a dreaded criminal who is presently serving a life term for murder in the Hazaribagh central jail.

Taslim left Ranchi in the early 1990s and is said to have joined the Dawood gang.
