Iran not decided on Afghan talks

By IANS,

Tehran : Iran has not decided whether it will take part in the G-8 meeting in Italy to discuss the Afghan issue and other regional developments, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has said.

Italy has decided to invite Iranian officials to the July 8-10 event to discuss the Afghan issue, IRNA reported Saturday. Mottaki made the remarks to a Serbian TV channel Friday.

Iran has criticised countries involved in Afghanistan’s reconstruction for their failure to establish security and control the drug trade in the country.

Mottaki said Iran was closely monitoring the developments in Afghanistan to devise appropriate policies for the region.

Mottaki also reiterated Iran’s right to use nuclear technology.

He added that countries with atomic bombs had no right to criticise Tehran on its nuclear programme that he said was only meant for peaceful civilian energy.
