Tehran, March 8, IRNA – Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki recommended the US President Barack Obama to use ‘change’ in the true sense of the word.
In a meeting with director general of Portuguese Foreign Ministry’s Political Affairs Department, Nuno Brito, he added that his slogans should not be merely superficial.
Referring to long-lasting ties between Iran and Portugal, he said that Iran welcomes exchange of economic delegations to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Commenting on the political developments in the world and unilateralism, he added that unilateralism in the new era is an outdated theory while regional groupings such as Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) are getting more dynamic.
Pointing to Iran’s participation in dozens of economic projects, Mottaki said that Iranian contractors are implementing various projects in different countries.
As to Iran’s role in regional issues, he said, “We are ready to offer our views on the issues and talk with the EU.”
Touching on the US, he also hoped that Obama will stick to promises of change.
Extremism, insecurity and rise of poppy cultivation in Afghanistan are the outcome of Bush’s policies, he said.
Brito, for his part, referred to friendly ties between the two countries and said that he had constructive talks with Iranian officials.
“We are seeking new means to control the crisis facing European countries,” he said, noting that this requires all-out support.
“We welcome cooperation of the region’s influential states such as Iran in promoting security and stability in Afghanistan and consider it important,” he said.
