Colombo : Eight people were killed and over 20 injured Tuesday when a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber blew himself up in Sri Lanka’s southern Matara province, an official said.
The state-run Daily News quoted Media Center for National Security chief Lakshman Hulugalle as blaming the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for the bombing at Akuressa.
Matara province, populated overwhelmingly by the Sihalese community, is about 160 km south of Colombo.
According to Xinhua, the explosion took place at an Islamic festival which was attended by several ministers.
