Misra, who is not only projected as Mayawati’s second-in-command but also as the Brahmin mascot of the Dalit party, was flown to Tumkur in a special aircraft from Lucknow.

While BSP members pleaded ignorance about the brief Mayawati had given to her emissary, sources confirmed that Misra was told to convey to Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat that the Third Front must project Mayawati as its prime ministerial candidate.

Nine political parties from across India gathered in Tumkur Thursday to launch a Third Front, which its leaders said would strive to be an alternative to both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nationally.

These are the Janata Dal-Secular, CPI-M, Communist Party of India, Revolutionary Socialist Party, Forward Bloc, Telugu Desam Party, AIADMK, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
