Hyderabad, India : Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami has said the emphasis would be on controlling money power in the ensuing elections.
Addressing a press conference at the end of a day-long review meeting on poll preparations in Andhra Pradesh here today, the CEC said officials from the Income Tax Department were being deployed in a big way to check not only the expenditure by the candidates but also the distribution of money to voters.
“IT officials were used even earlier also, but this time our emphasis will be on controlling the money power in elections,” the CEC observed.
He said micro-observers were being deployed in this election to cover at least 20 per cent of the polling stations.
“The entire poll process would be video-graphed wherever possible. Otherwise we will at least take digital photographs of the polling activity. The video footage or digital pictures will be used while filing complaints about the poll process,” the CEC explained.
