Shiela Gupta died Feb 24 after a protracted battle with cancer at the age of 74.

A large number of friends, family and admirers attended the funeral at the Guildford Crematorium near the town of Godalming in Surrey county.

A respected and much-loved figure among Bengalis in London, Sheila Gupta was a connoisseur of Indian art and culture.

Fittingly, her moving service included songs by Rabindranath Tagore, of whom Gupta was a lifelong admirer. Her son, Surrey-based ophthalmologist Ananda Gupta, released a dove to bring the ceremony to a close.
