Addressing a press conference here, Yadav said: “There is perfect understanding between the two parties and even if we do not come to terms for a formal alliance, we would still be together in the elections.”

He went on to add: “There are neither any differences between us nor are we distanced from each other. Let me tell you that we will not be adversaries under any circumstances.”

Asked what was the stumbling block in the way of a formal political alliance between the two, Yadav replied: “As far as we are concerned, there is no hurdle and we have decided to remain friends with the Congress. So this query should be addressed to them.”

On his new-found friendship with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rebel Kalyan Singh, he remarked: “My relationship with Kalyan Singh is also going fine. Though he has broken a leg, he will be campaigning for our party soon.”

When a scribe sought his comments on the revival of the Third Front with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati at its centre, Yadav said: “They have not had a taste of her style. One touch and they will learn a lesson of their life; I know it because I have experienced it.”

On the Election Commission’s reprimand on the “cash for vote” charge against his party, the Samajwadi Party chief said: “We have sent our reply to the Election Commission”. He however declined to divulge the contents of the reply.

“We have given our explanation well before today’s deadline and I am quite confident that the commission will be fully satisfied with our reply,” he said.
