Ranchi : After distributing medicine kits and condoms in Jharkhand, the postman will now deliver pamphlets and other messages of political parties to the voters.
“We have been approached by some political parties and probable candidates to deliver their messages to voters through our Direct Post services,” an official in Ranchi postal department told IANS.
Jharkhand Postal Department Director Anil Kumar said: “Our Direct Post services could be availed by anyone in the state. The only condition is that the interested person or institutes avail our services by paying the charges.”
The Direct Post service is already availed by educational institutions and multi-national companies to popularise their products.
Also, the postal department now plans to introduce a new service – Information of Delivery (IOD). This service will confirm to the sender that their messages have reached their target-audience.
“IOD services could be availed by paying extra money. The political parties are excited by this move of the postal department,” Kumar said.
Former spokesperson of Jharkhand Congress Alok Dubey said: “This is a good move as our messages will get conveyed to people living in rural areas.”
