New Delhi: Assam United Democratic Front (AUDF) has announced its candidates for four Lok Sabha seats in Assam. Its president Maulana Badruddin Ajmal is to contest from Silchar and Dhubri seats. Spokesman of AUDF Dr. Baharul Islam gave this information to TwoCircles.net today.
From Karimganj, AUDF is fielding Advocate Rajesh Mala. Mala belongs to the Tea Tribes people. He is the first among his community to contest a Lok Sabha election. Laxmi Orang, a Dalit woman who was stripped on the streets of Guwahati will be AUDF candidate from Tezpur.
AUDF is going to contest a total of eight seats out of fourteen seats in Assam. It is contesting elections in alliance with the Third Front. Names of other four candidates will be announced after 18th March after the conclusion of the Third Front meeting, informed Dr. Islam.
Launched in 2006, just months before Assam Assembly elections, AUDF shocked everyone by its performance. It had won 10 seats. It is making cautious move towards expansion in other states. UDF state affiliates are expected to contest Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, UP, and Bihar.
