“In an effort to ensure victory of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates a large number of transfers of government officials have already been made.

“The BSP is grossly misusing the government funds in taking out lavish adverstisements in praise of the state government and its party president Mayawati,” Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh, said in his complaint filed with Election Commission.

Singh in his complaint urged the poll panel to take strict action against the state government so that free and fair elections can be conducted.

Polling in the electorally important state with 80 parliamentary seats would be held in all five phases – April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7 and May 13. Results would be declared on May 16.
