BJP has made Varun scapegoat, destroyed his future: Congress

New Delhi, March 21 (IANS) Coming out in tacit support of young Gandhi scion Varun Gandhi, a senior Congress leader Saturday charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making him a “scapegoat” of their “communal agenda” and destroying his political future.

“The BJP has set its hidden, hate and communal agenda for the elections and the kind of statements Varun made are not a solitary statement in vacuum,” said senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily here.

“This is a reflection of the BJP’s communal agenda,” Moily told reporters.

“Varun Gandhi has been made a scapegoat of the BJP agenda, which might destroy the future of the young leader,” he said.

“The kind of statements by the BJP leaders are the reflection of the frustration in their camp,” Moily said.

Moily said the top-most BJP leaders did not deny the statements made by the young Gandhi.

Varun Gandhi, the BJP candidate for Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, has been issued a poll panel notice for the alleged hate content of his speeches.

Moily also referred to the alleged inappropriate words used by Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray while referring to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a Sena-BJP election campaign meeting in Mumbai, which was attended by BJP president Rajnath Singh.
