“A case has been registered against Javed Akhtar and his supporters for taking out a procession and using loudspeakers without any prior permission from the district authorities,” police inspector B.K. Singh told IANS on phone.

Akhtar and his supporters also scuffled with the policemen when they tried to stop their procession March 19. However, district and police administration got the case registered March 22 only after seeing the video footage of the procession taken out in Mubarakpur locality of Azamgarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“We will send the CD of the procession and the report on violation of the poll conduct code to the State Election Commission (SEC) today,” said Singh.

The Ulema Council has announced its candidates for five Lok Sabha seats – Azamgarh, Lalganj, Jaunpur, Machlishahr and Lucknow – in Uttar Pradesh.
