Raipur : Karuna Shukla, niece of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, filed her nomination papers Wednesday as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Korba Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh.
Shukla filed her papers in the presence of Chief Minister Raman Singh and several other seniors members of the party.
Shukla, who will take on her old rival Charandas Mahant of the Congress, said after filing papers at Korba town: “My good relationship with the voters and the achievements of the BJP’s state government will help me win easily”.
Shukla, the BJP national vice-president and Mahant, the state Congress working president, had fought a close contest in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls in Janjgir constituency and Shukla had won by about 11,000 votes.
But since the Janjgir seat has been reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) due to a delimitation exercise, both have moved to the KOrba constituency.
Chhattisgarh goes to polls April 16.
