Lucknow : Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow and Brisbane, one of the most populous cities in Australia, are all set to become sister cities for their mutual benefit and development, an official said.
“Our Lucknow has become the first city of India to get an offer from Brisbane for building sister city relationships,” Lucknow Mayor Dinesh Sharma told IANS Saturday.
He said both cities would work together in developing commercial, cultural, educational, sporting and other mutually beneficial exchanges.
Sharma, who has just received a letter from the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Campbell Newman, said: “In the letter, Newman said that Brisbane has a sizeable Indian expatriate community that is interested in forming a sister city relationship with Lucknow.”
Currently, Brisbane has various sister cities, including Kobe (Japan), Semarang (Indonesia), Auckland (New Zealand), Chongquing (China), Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Daejeon (Korea) and Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates).
According to officials, in the next 30 days both Lucknow and Brisbane will sign the sister cities agreement.
