Shimla : Amid raging infighting over a party ticket to former cricketer Madan Lal to contest Lok Sabha elections from Himachal Pradesh, the state Congress chief Saturday asked the party cadre to shun differences over the issue.
Certain Congress leaders, including state Congress chief Kaul Singh Thakur and former chief minister Virbhadra Singh had openly opposed party nomination to Madan Lal.
“Directions have been issued to the partymen to sink their differences now and work in unison for the victory of all the four candidates, including Madan Lal, in the state,” Thakur told reporters here.
Madan Lal, who was present at the press conference, will be fighting from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency of the state.
“It’s the decision of the party high command and we should respect it,” Thakur said. “The high command did a lot of groundwork before giving the ticket to Madan Lal.”
“Madan Lal has roots in Hamirpur district. Now, this chapter has been closed,” Thakur added.
Himachal Pradesh will go to polls for its four Lok Sabha seats May 13.
