Jaipur : Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jaswant Singh has been caught on camera distributing money during an election meeting in Rajasthan.
Singh and Kailash Meghwal, national vice-president of the BJP, have been shown in a video clip telecast by news channels giving money to a woman who approached them at a poll rally in Gajaria village part of Barmer constituency.
Singh’s son Manvendra Singh is fighting the Lok Sabha election from Barmer.
The leaders are shown handing over the cash to a person accompanying the woman who was attending the election rally.
The two leaders have officially not commented on the allegation.
“Our tehsildar (collector) of the area has filed a report of this incident. We are looking into it,” Ravi Jain, District Collector of Barmer, told IANS.
Earlier, Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav and actor-turned-politician Govinda were caught in a similar controversy of offering money to potential voters.
While Govinda is not contesting the election, the Election Commission decided not to initiate action against Mulayam Singh Yadav. Both had pleaded to the election panel that distributing money among their poor callers-on on the occasion of Holi is their family tradition.
