Land scam accused Ashok Malhotra’s cars released

By IANS,

New Delhi : A Delhi court Saturday ordered a conditional release of five luxury cars owned by Ashok Malhotra, the alleged mastermind of the multi-million land scam in the capital.

Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge S.P. Garg passed the order on a plea by Malhotra who is accused of having entered into a criminal conspiracy with some Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials for fraudulently acquiring plots meant for resettlement of slum-dwellers during 2000-02.

The CBI had seized 17 luxury cars, with VIP number plates, from Malhotra’s home in north Delhi following a raid in August 2007.

The court asked Malhotra to deposit bank guarantee or fixed deposits to the tune of the cost of five luxury cars – Toyota Camry, Endeavour SUV, Octavia, Chevrolet, Land Cruiser Prado – and a Hero Honda Karizma bike, which would come to around Rs.3.94 million.
