Two BSF men on poll duty arrested for misbehaviour

By IANS,

Kolkata: Two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers on election duty in Kolkata were arrested Tuesday on the charge of misbehaving with a girl, a senior BSF officer said.

“Two BSF constables – Sanjib Kumar and Hemant Pratap – were arrested for reportedly molesting a girl when they were on election duty. Both of them have been suspended and criminal proceedings have also been initiated against them,” BSF Deputy Inspector General (south Bengal) Bikash Chandra told IANS.

“Sanjib Kumar, the prime accused, was suspended for misbehaving with a girl and Pratap was suspended for not stopping him,” he added.

The incident took place near New Market area in central Kolkata.

According to sources, a team of six BSF troopers, including a driver, had gone out in a vehicle for some administrative work. While three of them had gone to buy some food, both Sanjib Kumar and Pratap were sitting in the car.

“Sanjib Kumar tried to catch hold of a girl when the latter was passing by the BSF vehicle. On the basis of complaint by the locals, we have taken action against the constables after finding them guilty,” Chandra added.

“The BSF has been doing a great job with responsibility during all the phases of the elections. We don’t want the name of the organisation to be spoilt by the act of these two jawans,” he said.
