Mumbai : Indian markets ended in the red Wednesday on a volatile note ahead of the exit polls in parliamentary elections, with a key index shutting shop 153 points below its last closing figure.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 12,201.93 points, shed 153.65 points or 1.26 percent from its previous close to end at 12,004.38 points (provisional).
The S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) lost 1.4 percent to close at 3,629.45 points.
Broader market indices also ended in the negative terrain, with the BSE midcap index slipping 0.43 percent, while the BSE smallcap index was down 0.75 percent.
