Mumbai : The Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) combine won from one constituency and was leading in another 25 in Maharashtra by early Saturday afternoon as the counting progressed.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena combine was leading in 10 and nine constituencies respectively. The state has 48 Lok Sabha seats.
The Congress-NCP was leading in all six seats in the country’s commercial capital Mumbai, as per official figures at 1.30 p.m.
All Congress candidates in the city – Milind Deora (Mumbai South), Eknath Gaekwad (Mumbai South-Central), Priya Dutt (Mumbai North-Central), Gurudas Kamat (Mumbai North-West), Sanjay Nirupam (Mumbi North) and Sanjay Patil of ally NCP were leading over their nearest rivals by huge margins, ranging from 35,000 to 100,000 votes.
So far, the state election department has announced two results – Udayanraje Prataprao Bhosale of NCP won from Satara in the southwest part of the state, and Bahujan Vikas Aghadi’s Baliram Jadhav from Palghar constituency.
The NCP is leading in seven seats and the Congress in 17 seats across the state.
Others like Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Samajwadi Party and an independent candidate were leading in one seat each.
In 2004, the Congress had bagged 13 seats, NCP nine, Republican Party of India had one, the BJP 13 and the Shiv Sena got 12 seats.
