Congress wins two seats in Delhi, Sheila Dikshit jubilant

New Delhi : The Congress won two seats in Delhi and was leading in five constituencies five hours into counting of votes Saturday. A jubilant Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said she had expected the poll results.

Congress candidates Kapil Sibal and Mahabal Mishra won in the Chandni Chowk and West Delhi constituencies respectively. Those leading after three hours of the vote count were Sandeep Dikshit in East Delhi, Ramesh Kumar in South Delhi, Krishna Tirath in Northwest Delhi, J.P. Agarwal in Northeast Delhi and Ajay Maken in New Delhi.

“I expected it (the results). My expectations have come true. I am grateful to the people of Delhi,” Dikshit told reporters.

“The people of Delhi have begun to understand that governments are all about honest governments. There will be better coordination now.

“The slogan of aam aadmi (common man) was not a hollow slogan – we have done it in education, employment,” she added.

Congress had won six of seven seats in Delhi in the 2004 elections.
