“It’s very clear now. The trend shows that there will be one government – Congress-led UPA government. We look forward to five more years for the UPA to be in power,” Abdullah told reporters.

“I was keen on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (for another term). He wants to make Jammu and Kashmir a model state,” he added.

The National Conference partners the Congress in the Jammu and Kashmir government.

Citing reasons for the Congress doing well across the country, Abdullah said: “This government espouses the cause of rural India, like waiving of farmers’ loan, and has a youth focus with Rahul Gandhi.

“Leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, I – we all espouse the cause of the youth. You can’t expect an 80-year-old (L.K. Advani) to talk about the youth. Indian people were not taken in by it and you can see the results. The leadership and policies projected (by Congress-led UPA) were a success.”

“This time a younger leadership will emerge,” he added.

“In Jammu and Kashmir, we are waiting for the final results. Hopefully, it will be positive,” Abdullah further said.
