Kolkata : Amid speculation about his offering to resign, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Monday met Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) patriarch Jyoti Basu but refused to speak to the media.
The chief minister went to the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings in the morning and came out of it in the evening only, and left for Basu’s house in the satellite Salt Lake township. He did not speak to media persons despite repeated questions.
Speculation is rife that Bhattacharjee offered to resign after the dismal performance of the party in the Lok Sabha elections, though Left Front chairman Biman Bose earlier Monday ruled out the possibility, terming it “gossip”.
