Four headmasters suspended for corruption in Bihar

By IANS,

Patna : The headmasters of four primary schools in Bihar’s Darbhanga district were suspended for irregularities in the mid-day meal scheme for schoolchildren, officials said Monday.

The headmasters were suspended Saturday after an enquiry found them guilty of corruption.

The district administration had undertaken the probe after villagers complained that their children were not being given mid-day meals in the four schools.

The mid-day meal scheme is one of the world’s largest nutrition-supplement programmes, covering more than a million schools across India. Under it, students in government-run schools are given free lunch. It was launched in July 1995 to tackle the twin problems of dropouts in primary schools and malnutrition among children from poor families.
