Paris : In a daring daylight heist just steps away from the French justice ministry in Paris, a lone robber made off with millions in jewellery without firing a shot, media reports said.
The value of the Saturday robbery was estimated at 6 million to 10 million euros ($8.5 million to 14.1 million), the France Info news agency reported.
The suspect, described as around 50 years old, appeared to be just another well-heeled customer when he entered the Chopard jewellery store in the Place Vendome, an area known for luxury hotels and numerous jewellery stores.
Brandishing a pistol, the armed robber forced the store’s employees to pack a bag full of jewellery. Mounted cameras were unable to capture a good image because he wore a hat. He calmly left the store on foot without attracting attention.
The robbery lasted two minutes.
Chopard, which has its roots in Switzerland, is known for selling jewellery to movie stars.
